Wanted a little more Yummi
by PinkMink
on February 7, 2012
After a less than stellar dinner elsewhere in Uptown, and time to kill before the movie, we enjoyed the unseasonably weather for February with a stroll around Uptown. When we saw "Yummi Berry" memories of our favorite yogurt place sprang to mind, Yogurtville. Yummi Berry was good, but not a lot of choices. The yogurt was a little runny - like it had not enough time in the freezing stage. I had Birthday cake and The White Chocolate. Almond Slivers for my topping. both were way to sweet, and I had a hard time finishing. The service was friendly and knowledgeable and the dining area was clean. Will I be back? Oh, yeah.. but its not Yogurtville =(

nice treat, nice business model

Unlike most places that charge by the item, Yummy Berry charges by the ounce.

I built a hefty bowl with two types of Frozen Yogurt, "hard shell sauce", some mini-peanut butter cups and other add-ins. Having so many add-ins at another shop would cost a fortune. I was out for less than $5. It was Yummi. :)

If you just need a quick low cal taste, just get a small portion and you can get probably get out for less than a buck!

That's a huge benefit of their business model: you can get a "fix" w/o costing too many calories.
At most places the portion would blow any diet, here it's all under your control.

It's All in the Name

Yummi Berry is the new kid in town. Although there are other locations and similar shops offering build-your-own frozen yogurts treats, this is the first one I've been to and I like it!

Basically you pay by the pound (or ounce) so the more yogurt and toppings you pile on, the more expensive your snack will be. It's not cheap to begin with, so go easy at first. You can sample the different frozen yogurt flavors, but so far my favorite is the plain yogurt. (That may have something to do with the fact that I'm counting calories these days!)

The candy and nuts waiting to be spooned atop my frozen treat were inviting, but I chose the fruit both times. (Again, see above comment about calories. ;) The first time I stopped in the raspberries were "oh so fresh" but unfortunately weren't available the next week. Anyway, I added a little honey to my concoction, placed my bowl on the scale and paid for my little treat -- which by the way goes quite well with a plain, salted pretzel from Wetzel's just up the sidewalk!

Give Yummi Berry a try even if you don't think you like regular yogurt. Right now, besides free samples, you'll also receive a specially-marked receipt with your purchase that'll give you a certain percentage off your next visit. (I think it's 10%?)
