Awful food, Awful service, Expensive
by Christy
on January 3, 2012
Please do not waste your time or money going to this restaurant. It can only be described as awful food, awful service, and expensive. Our experience: My husband and I were initially greeted by the overly talkative owner who shows us to our seat and then continues to drill us about where we lived and other inappropriate conversation. He then yells across to the restaurant to tell his wife that we lived in Cedar Hill and he is going to make sure that we come back. We were so embarassed. Talk about unprofessional. Next, the waiter arrives and is cluesless about the menu. We finally figure out our order and 30 minutes later receive a plateful of salty, greasy jalapeno poppers. We couldn't even finish those. Next, I received a salty hamburger and french fries (which were FRIED IN FISH GREASE). I immediately have an itchy throat due to my allergies to fish (Definitely a health code violation). My husband gets the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was flavorless and again FRIED IN FISH GREASE! We left almost all the food on the plates, paid our EXPENSIVE bill, ran out of there, and vowed never to eat there again. What a disappointing experience. This place needs a major overhaul!

Just Like Mom's Cooking
by LocalShopper
on November 20, 2011
Too bad Mom never learned to cook! This is the only place I found where you can get your burger crunchy - and only because they cook it until it is seriously charred. You don't get a choice in how the burger is cooked. And the onion strings, too thin to be called onion rings, were cooked in grease that had burned so they also tasted burned even though they were limp and greasy.

The music is too loud for normal conversation, and the accoustics don't help. It is a family run restuarant because the kids hang out at the counter playing computer games, and the folks behind the counter are so busy hugging and chatting with each other there must be only one person left in the kitchen to cook for the customers and handle the required cleaning chores.

Poor reflection on Uptown Village
by SlayerSolo
on October 31, 2011
I brought my wife and toddler into the empty Diner in the middle of the afternoon. Their options for drinks were, soda, water, iced tea, and lemonade. No juice, coffee, beer, like almost any other restaurant. I asked, "You don't even have OJ for breakfast?" Nope. They were also out of a couple of things on their sparse menu.

So I ordered the "two-patty" cheeseburger with LTO and no mayo. My wife orders a BLT w/ mayo on wheat. We get a grilled cheese for our daughter. First comes the G/C...one slice of american between two slices of wonderbread and a handful of plain Lays for $5. My burger comes out with one patty, mayo, and LT on one of those generic grocery store buns that are like 8/$1. My wife gets her BLT on white wonderbread with a tiny amount of lettuce, one thinly sliced tomato, and some bacon...no mayo. I suppose she could've put some of the Kroger-brand ketchup from the table on it.

We told the server and all she said was, "Oh, I'm sorry." My wife saw her tell the "cook" over my shoulder and he just lifted his hands in an, "I dunno!" gesture. BTW...I saw the kitchen folk out in the dining room before we left, all working in street clothes.

When I read the menu description saying, "home cooking" I didn't expect them to mean that it would be like me going to visit the poor relative who can't cook. This place isn't anywhere near up to the caliber of any restaurant in/around Uptown Village.

Go Somewhere Else!
by timalaya
on October 3, 2011
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. First, the owner/waitress/host (not sure since she did not have on a uniform or a name tag) was inappropriately dressed for serving food. The dinner serving was a small portion considering the price. Lastly, and most importantly, because I used a restaurant.com certificate they tried to pad my bill with doubling the charge on my beverages as well as the doubling the tax amount. Instead of an itemized bill, it was handwritten so it was easier to miss any mistakes. I was very disappointed that they were trying to get over.

My family and I ate at The Cedar Hill Diner one day after church. The food was delicious, we had great service also. We even got to speak with one of the co-owers, he was very friendly and professional. I have already recommended this eatery to friends.

Breakfast is huge!
by dancinggirl

The Diner @ Cedar Hill is a great place for breakfast. Me and my family ate the Uptown Breakfast and could not finish all the food. The pancake was so big but most of all it was the best pancake I have ever eaten.

The place is packed on Saturday so make sure you get there early.

Great Food

We ate here today and the food was excellent. We ate meatloaf, chicken and waffles, and hamburgers and all of these items were wonderful.

I was especially pleased at the staff being so friendly and courteous.

If you are looking for 5 star service then go to a 5 star restaurant. If you are looking for great food at great prices and a warm friendly atmosphere then you must try this place. Service is what you expect, pleasant, timely and friendly. Food is like mom use to cook, great!!!

I had a great experience at The Diner. The atmosphere is very comfortable. The staff is friendly. The food is more than enough for your money. My children really liked the fried catfish. I would definitely recommend The Diner for a good home cooked meal.

Good food, poor service
by donperkins
on July 28, 2011
The food here was great, and the portions generous. The owner and staff seem like nice folks, but the service is terrible. We almost had to beg to get someone to take a dessert order. Then it took almost 30 minutes for them to figure our check. I really hope they make it, but they are in serious need of a business coach.

Went to The Diner in Cedar Hill today for the first time...The food was excellent and more than enough for the money..The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was very cozy and family friendly. This is not a large food chain but I definitely recommend this restaurant over most...This is one meal that I won't soon forget and will definitely be dining there more often !! loved it...
